So the Malle Mile was something else! An incredible, dusty weekend photographing at my first @mallelondon - Definitely one I will be returning too and a good opportunity to catch up with fellow photographers. Also a massive thanks to the guys at @heraldmotorco for introducing me to their range of bikes, I thought I was set on a bike until I sat on the Herald Scrambler! See you on the start line…
NAECO - is ocean spelt backwards. Made from 4 plastic bottles my friends at NAECO recently sent me a pair of their new range of sunglasses. They are doing wonderful things to protect our oceans as well as creating a sustainable luxury clothing brand only using recycled materials to create high-quality clothing. With sustainability at the core of what they do and their extra measures to minimise water-usage, energy and emissions on their earth-friendly luxury garments, NAECO is definitely a brand worth checking out! #DoGoodLookGoodFeelGood

One very happy customer with his new Hydrolift X-22. Living just on the doorstep to my clients Hydrolift Boats at Parkstone Bay Marina, Mr G bought the first X-22 in our marina a few months ago. With some fresh content needed, we got back in touch and headed out during golden hour to capture what the X-22 is really capable of!
It was an after hours event at Wolf and Badger, London during London Fashion Week 2020 when I first met Charli Fisher. We soon got talking and before departing for the evening, we did what anyone in the creative industry does nowadays, exchange Instagram profiles.
We had the connection of living down South (Charli left London to visit family occasionally) so we remained in touch ever since in the hope of one day doing a photoshoot. The lock down bought us together, but from a distance, and we soon ended up working together.
Charli rustled up a few fashion brands such as Nicola Sexton, Aspinal, Burberry, Naeco, Loveness Lee, Trubikini, UN-NYE and Adeline Rusu.
I had a location in mind. One of my favourite beaches in Dorset - I had always imagined doing a fashion shoot here. The flat, quiet beach, golden sands, dried pale grasses and the tree stumps all made an ideal location to fit with the brands Charli was modelling. Plus, the red telephone box located on the edge of the bay gave me the cinematic shots I had always imagined would tell a great story.
Huawei UK was also on board - the landy was the ideal prop yet again!
“Working with Indy was an absolute pleasure. Very professional, fun on location and the images turned out amazing. I will definitely work with Indy again!”

Understandably your brand maybe suffering right now. Your marketing budget is completely reduced? You’ve paused your contract with your agency but you need to continue to move forward? With a number of existing assets stored up, there is still a way you can reuse old content, create a strategic plan and STILL have an impact to your brand audience and potential customers.
Finding new ways to recycle your existing content has a number of benefits too such as;
Reaching a new audience - Reformatting your content for a different mediums means appealing to more audiences and extending your reach.
Hitting those viewers that missed it first time round - There is nothing wrong with reposting the same blog post over and over. In fact, encouraged. The chances of everyone seeing it the first time round are very slim. Reword the title, change the images… make the most of your efforts!
Dig out those old shoots - You might stumble across some old treasures that never got used or just simply forgotten. Reposting your content puts old favourites up front and centre, ensuring that great content is never forgotten.
I find myself reusing my content I have created for my clients a lot when putting together social media schedules. It’s really enjoyable using my photographs I take for brands in several contexts.
Here are a few ideas of some of the ways I’ve been reusing content recently that I have found has increased engagement and kept my clients brands still active and in the forefront of their audience and followers mind when scrolling through social media.
Reusing photographs to create new blog posts - even though you may have used these photographs in a previous blog post, use them again with a new meaning.
Interviews - Turn to your connections, ambassadors and team. Either write up engaging Q&As, do Instagram lives, podcasts… this will give you interactive content as well as ‘behind the scenes’ insights to build trust between your brand and audience.
Reach out to your customers, connections, fans for reviews and testimonials - each review can create a new post
Get your blog posts on air as podcasts - podcasting has gotten pretty big lately. If you have a detailed blog post in your achieve, pull them out and dust them off. With a little reformatting, editing and scripting, they make excellent podcasts.
Tagging the right people - Reposting what others have shared from your feed you still remain forefront of peoples mind and active online.
Influencers, ambassadors and content creators could also be a low budget option if you are looking for fresh new content of your products. It is also something I offer to outdoor and lifestyle brands and love doing. When it comes to shooting at home, lighting is key. The morning light is so beautiful at the moment that I chose to shoot some of my favourite jewellery pieces from a brand called Tutti & Co.
For this shoot, it was early enough to get soft light outside and still create the ‘early morning, fresh sheet’ look that I was aiming for to fit with this particular brand.
Things you will need:
Camera / Phone
Table
Duvet / white sheet
Product / jewellery of your choice
Leaves
A couple of props to play around with - I used pastel pink almonds but fruits could be an alternative idea
Step 1: Position your table where the light can hit the object whether inside by a window or outside. Play around with your positioning to avoid shooting into the light.
Step 2: Place down your white sheet - I used a duvet to give the ‘Lazy Sunday morning’ vibe and also add some texture and depth around the product and props.
Step 3: Play around with your layouts. I thought about the composition when shooting mine - placing the jewellery as centre focus and positioning a beautiful glass bowl of pink almonds (House of Dorchester Chocolates) closer to the light to give off some lovely detailed reflections on the sheet. I also really like it when props bleed out of the frame too but I experimented with a range of framings.
Step 4: Play with the light. I used a leaf from a fern and had a couple of different shaped leaves to swap in and out depending on how much white space I wanted to keep around the product. These shadows added a nice ‘summery’ feel to fit with the brands aesthetics.
Step 5: Editing - I wanted it to be soft and light and make the pink in the almonds ‘Pop’. I lifted the shadows and whites and lowered the highlights slighting to capture a bit more detail. Below are some of my befores and afters!
I hope you enjoyed! I have more product photography shoots lined up soon with new experiments, so stay tuned…
Had some time in the garden recently with Swatch UK. I have loved Swatch watches for years. Practical, comfortable, waterproof and long lasting. I am always in and out of water, getting muddy in the Dorset countryside or in the garden so Swatch seemed like an excellent brand to create content for.
I’ve been really enjoying these Adobe Live from the sofa I’ve learnt some much from spending an hour a day learning from other creatives. I took this photograph I shot for Scoundrels and Gentleman earlier this week during a Lightroom lesson and pretty happy with the results!
Rise and shine! It won’t be long before we can get back out there, explore and wake up to beautiful views again🏕 It will soon be time for many business to market their products again and get back out there! This doesn't necessarily mean spending fortunes when your marketing budget has been completely reduced and you don't have the budget to create anything new but instead, together we can recycle old content and imagery and use existing assets to start communicating with potential customers and clients again! With my one walk a day and stuck in the Dorset countryside for the foreseeable, I decided to go and explore during my exercise allowance and produce some content at the same time. I took my Lowepro bag, couple of Canon cameras and my hunters and hit the hills. These are the photographs and content I came up with…
Calling all Lifestyle and Outdoor brands suffering from COVID-19! I'm offering free content photography to keep your brand alive. Post me your products and lets work through this together!
Like me and many other freelancers, my work has suffered dramatically from COVID-19 for the foreseeable future. Instead of taking a negative approach, I would like to make the most of my one walk a day and continue developing what I love to help small outdoor and lifestyle brands keep their products alive. I plan to explore my local country routes once a day and use this time to photograph your products. Get in touch indy.hodder@hotmail.com
Based in Portland, Dorset, new gym Jurassic Muscle and Fitness was built. As a personal trainer myself, I attend regularly and found some photography potential within this industrial styled gym. I wanted to capture training and sports content for Jurassic Muscle and Fitness and also for Matt Harvey, a personal trainer based in Weymouth, Dorset. Tracking progress is an important of any client or person in training and photographing Matt regularly during his competition training is a good way of creating gym content for social media but also showing Matts body changes and gym progression.
Based in Dorchester, I drive through Poundbury most days and I have always been intrigued by the shed adjoining The Garden Group. Not just because of the inviting call to action hung outside the door but simply because the thriving lunch time rush that goes through the doors every day. My aim was to photograph the rustic colours and atmosphere which I had always imagined this Dorset café had behind the doors and it did not disappoint. Bowls of beautiful local produce from Olive Et Al and fresh bread and focaccia (handmade, proved and baked from a lovely old Sourdough Starter) to some seriously super salads, cakes, sandwiches, tarts and traybakes all with a particular Mediterranean twist. A rack full of 100% Organic & Vegan Wines as well as stonking spirits were also covering the walls. The colours were exactly as I imagined and I can’t wait to go back and shoot some more. A lovely way to start the morning!
2020. A year of sustainable fashion, ethical brands and upcycling. Attending the 2020 London Fashion week was not only about capturing fashion content for sustainable clothing brands but for me, capturing the people, the expressions and ‘behind the scenes’ emotions that you don’t see whilst watching a catwalk. Not only has social media and content creation changed the way we think when attending an event, I put down my phone and experience what is changing in fashion, in environment and the emotions of London Fashion Week.
Every Saturday morning I get up early and travel to Portland, Dorset to Jurassic Muscle and Fitness. As a personal trainer myself I do my best to keep my PT knowledge fresh. I train with Matt a lot and the quality I offer to my clients is my skills as a photographer so we combine our love for fitness with my photography and create good content for Matt to advertise his services. If your based on Portland, get in touch with Matt, he’ll have a laugh and keep you in shape!
My nan has always been ready for things. Never been one to sit and be idle. Up and active with her coat and shoes on early each morning, ready to start the day.
Ever since my mum can remember, Friday has always been a “clean bed day” in my nan’s house. She has always been a clean and tidy lady but throughout the stages of dementia this day gradually faded out. Having clean sheets on the bed, now only happens if it is done for her.
She always assists my mum with making it even though she is convinced it is not her home.
I took these photographs during lunch time… For my nan, lunch time is usually a time when she convinces herself that she's eaten and sometimes not realising when she's hungry. It’s now all about encouraging her to eat, so making her lunch is always satisfying.
She often takes pauses to question if everyone else has eaten even though its just her and I in the room.
Staring, wandering , biting her nails - you can start to see when confusion kicks in, usually followed by a sudden change of emotion.
I captured this moment just before she felt lost and didn’t understand where she was.
The majority of dinner times are confusing. Going back to the days when she fed for 7 children, thinking they are all coming home for their tea. There are also days when she waits for family members to bring her her dinner. Bringing her back to reality can be tough.
Based at The Training Shed gym, sister company AM SPORT were testing out KitBrix ambassador and Yorkshire OCR champion, Connor Hancock to help him in improve in competition and overall fitness.
Photographing and documenting the details and ‘behind the scenes’ moments of Connor’s DNA test, I was able to create the content required to support the gym and DNA.
