Based in Dorchester, I drive through Poundbury most days and I have always been intrigued by the shed adjoining The Garden Group. Not just because of the inviting call to action hung outside the door but simply because the thriving lunch time rush that goes through the doors every day. My aim was to photograph the rustic colours and atmosphere which I had always imagined this Dorset café had behind the doors and it did not disappoint. Bowls of beautiful local produce from Olive Et Al and fresh bread and focaccia (handmade, proved and baked from a lovely old Sourdough Starter) to some seriously super salads, cakes, sandwiches, tarts and traybakes all with a particular Mediterranean twist. A rack full of 100% Organic & Vegan Wines as well as stonking spirits were also covering the walls. The colours were exactly as I imagined and I can’t wait to go back and shoot some more. A lovely way to start the morning!
2020. A year of sustainable fashion
2020. A year of sustainable fashion, ethical brands and upcycling. Attending the 2020 London Fashion week was not only about capturing fashion content for sustainable clothing brands but for me, capturing the people, the expressions and ‘behind the scenes’ emotions that you don’t see whilst watching a catwalk. Not only has social media and content creation changed the way we think when attending an event, I put down my phone and experience what is changing in fashion, in environment and the emotions of London Fashion Week.
Weekends with Matt Harvey PT
Every Saturday morning I get up early and travel to Portland, Dorset to Jurassic Muscle and Fitness. As a personal trainer myself I do my best to keep my PT knowledge fresh. I train with Matt a lot and the quality I offer to my clients is my skills as a photographer so we combine our love for fitness with my photography and create good content for Matt to advertise his services. If your based on Portland, get in touch with Matt, he’ll have a laugh and keep you in shape!
Opening the doors to a fresh new look at South Deep Cafe, Dorset
Last night I spent to evening at the relaunch of South Deep Cafe at Parkstone Bay Marina. I’m a regular visitor to the marina as this is where I work weekly so it was a pleasure to be invited to the opening and seeing the new look! Congrats Jimmy!
Days with my grandmother
My nan has always been ready for things. Never been one to sit and be idle. Up and active with her coat and shoes on early each morning, ready to start the day.
Ever since my mum can remember, Friday has always been a “clean bed day” in my nan’s house. She has always been a clean and tidy lady but throughout the stages of dementia this day gradually faded out. Having clean sheets on the bed, now only happens if it is done for her.
She always assists my mum with making it even though she is convinced it is not her home.
I took these photographs during lunch time… For my nan, lunch time is usually a time when she convinces herself that she's eaten and sometimes not realising when she's hungry. It’s now all about encouraging her to eat, so making her lunch is always satisfying.
She often takes pauses to question if everyone else has eaten even though its just her and I in the room.
Staring, wandering , biting her nails - you can start to see when confusion kicks in, usually followed by a sudden change of emotion.
I captured this moment just before she felt lost and didn’t understand where she was.
The majority of dinner times are confusing. Going back to the days when she fed for 7 children, thinking they are all coming home for their tea. There are also days when she waits for family members to bring her her dinner. Bringing her back to reality can be tough.
DNA - Finding the good and bad's for OCR Champion, Connor Hancock
Based at The Training Shed gym, sister company AM SPORT were testing out KitBrix ambassador and Yorkshire OCR champion, Connor Hancock to help him in improve in competition and overall fitness.
Photographing and documenting the details and ‘behind the scenes’ moments of Connor’s DNA test, I was able to create the content required to support the gym and DNA.
Social Media Content Photography with Marvin Brooks
Love Island contestant, model and Personal Trainer. Marvin lives in Dorset and I was recently connected through mutual friend, Rhi Duffin. Working with influencers is an important part of social media growth and should be thought about when putting together a social strategy. I worked with Marvin for a few of his influencer collaborations as part of his fitness services, offering him a bank of imagery to use for his social media content and social media partnership collaborations.
Parkstone Bay - The Lake Yard
As Poole Harbour is our home it was hard to resist a lunch time getaway to our friends at The Lake Yard. We couldn't think of a better way to get there than to test out our two beautifully designed Hydrolift boats, taking a detour to Brownsea Island in some gusty conditions really did put the X-22 and X-26S to the test.
